Drawing Log Overview

The Drawing Log is designed to track project plans and revisions. As an option, the actual CAD, PDF, TIFF, or JPEG file can be uploaded and linked to the drawing log record.

Important Things To Know

  • Drawing Disciplines (eg. Architectural, Civil, Electrical etc.) are used to categorize drawing log records and can be setup in Settings / Lists / Drawings.
  • Drawing Listing:
    • The latest drawing revision will be shown and not the original to avoid confusion.
    • Two Listing Types: Simple Listing and Card Style. The latter will show the drawing thumbnail but only if one file is linked to the drawing log record.
  • The only method to create Drawing Log records without attachments is by importing a list from Microsoft Excel.
  • If a project contains different structures and Prime Contracts are set up for each then contracts should be referenced on drawing log records. This can then be used as a filter similar to Discipline.
  • Bursting PDFs and Thumbnails:
    • When using PDF files to create Drawings, an option to burst each PDF into separate pages will be available on step 2. If checked, each page will become a separate drawing record with a one page PDF linked file.
    • Thumbnails of Linked Files are created only if the file was uploaded after the October 18th, 2021 update. Thus, existing drawing log records with linked files will not have a thumbnail prior to that date.
  • External files that have been uploaded and linked to Drawing records are typically shared with Subs and Suppliers via the following features.
  • Drawing Logs can be referenced on CPRs, COs, SCOs, RFIs, Submittals, and Work Orders.

Steps To Complete Before Entering Drawing Logs:

  1. Optional: Review the List of Drawing Disciplines in the Settings / Lists / Drawings.

Examples Of Documenting Drawings and External Files

From a data entry point of view, scenarios 1 and 2 are the easiest to implement. However, for very large projects, scenario 3 may be required.

Scenario 1: One External File (i.e. PDF) That Contains All Sheets

Drawing # Title Discipline Package
Rev 0 Drawing Set - Original
Rev 1 Drawing Set - Revision 1
Rev 2 Drawing Set - Revision 2

Scenario 2: Multiple External Files (i.e. PDF) Organized By Discipline

Arch-Rev 1 Architectural Drawing Set - Revision 1 Architectural Revision 1
Arch-Rev 2 Architectural Drawing Set - Revision 2 Architectural Revision 2

Scenario 3: Each Drawing Sheet Is A Record

To implement this type of scenario, Corecon's Import From Microsoft Excel option is very convenient but does not provide the ability to upload external files. This would have to be done individually after importing the drawing log records.
